In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria’s Northeast, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has commissioned a state-of-the-art haematology and blood transfusion laboratory complex at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. Valued at500,000, the facility is part of NLNG’s Hospital Support Programme (HSP), aimed at enhancing diagnostic services across the country.
“This is more than just the unveiling of a facility. It is the unveiling of potential, resilience, and a commitment to quality healthcare delivery, as well as renewed hope for better health outcomes for the people of Bauchi, the Northeast, and Nigeria at large,” said Prof. Yusuf Bara, Chief Medical Director of ATBUTH.
The NLNG Hospital Support Programme was conceived in response to the challenges faced by Nigeria’s healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic. Launched in 2021, the programme aims to upgrade facilities in 12 federal university teaching hospitals across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory. Each project under the HSP is tailored to the specific needs of the beneficiary institution, following thorough assessments.
The newly commissioned laboratory at ATBUTH is expected to significantly enhance diagnostic capacity, support medical research, and improve patient care in the region.
It stands as a testament to the potential of strategic partnerships between the private sector and public health institutions in addressing critical healthcare challenges in Nigeria.
