World Hepatitis Day: First Lady Urges Nigerians to Embrace Testing, Treatment

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased awareness, testing, treatment and care for viral hepatitis as the world marks World Hepatitis Day 2026.

In a message commemorating the day on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Senator Tinubu stressed the importance of breaking barriers that prevent people from accessing essential health services needed to prevent and manage the disease.

She noted that this year’s theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” highlights the need for greater public education and renewed commitment to tackling the health challenge.

The First Lady urged stakeholders and communities to work together to reduce stigma surrounding hepatitis, encourage early diagnosis and improve access to life-saving interventions.

She reaffirmed the need for collective action towards achieving the global goal of eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

“Together, we can reduce stigma, promote early diagnosis, and strengthen our commitment to eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030,” she said.
