The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place in Morocco, with Nigeria placed in a tough Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The tournament, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, promises intense competition as teams battle for continental supremacy.
Nigeria, the group’s heavyweight, will rely on their rich AFCON pedigree, boasting three titles (1980, 1994, and 2013) and 16 medals from 20 appearances.
However, the Super Eagles will be wary of Tunisia, who eliminated them in the 2021 Round of 16. Tunisia, with one AFCON title won on home soil in 2004, also bring experience with 21 tournament appearances.
East African co-hosts of AFCON 2027, Uganda and Tanzania, complete the group. Uganda, featuring in their eighth AFCON, will aim to build on their growing stature in African football, while Tanzania, making their fourth appearance, will hope to cause an upset.
Elsewhere, the tournament features several exciting matchups. Hosts Morocco, placed in Group A, will face Mali, Zambia, and Comoros. Seven-time champions Egypt headline Group B alongside South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe. Defending champions Ivory Coast, who narrowly defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the 2023 final, will face Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique in a stacked Group F.
Morocco has also revealed an impressive list of venues for the competition, with matches set to take place in six cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier. The capital Rabat will feature four stadiums, including the 69,500-capacity Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah. Other iconic venues include Casablanca’s Complexe Sportif Mohammed V (45,000) and the Grand Stade de Tanger, the largest at 75,000 capacity.
As the countdown begins, the 2025 AFCON promises to deliver thrilling moments, historic clashes, and a celebration of African football across Morocco’s world-class stadiums. All eyes will be on Nigeria and their Group C rivals as the continent’s finest compete for the ultimate prize.
