Following the ongoing flood in Borno state, the state governments has directed closure of all schools both public and private across the state until September 23, 2024.
The annocement was made in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Schools Services, Grema Bulama.
The closure follows a visit tour to the Alo dam, a major water reservoir with sources from Lake Chad.
The Alo damn Bank have suffered leakages due to high rainfall leading to floods in most communities along riverine and flood-prone areas.
The statement partly read: “Due to the ongoing flooding across the state and its adverse effects, the Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation has directed a statewide closure of all schools, both public and private, until Monday, Sept. 23.
“We urge all concerned parties to comply strictly with this directive.
“We regret any inconvenience this notice may have caused and we appreciate your understanding,”
Bulama said the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, visited the dam at the behest of Governor Prof Babagana Zulum to assess its current condition and determine the cause of previous flooding in the state capital.
