The Federal Government has commenced the first tranche of direct financial payments to beneficiaries of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative, with over 42,000 young Nigerians receiving a monthly stipend of N22,500 to cover upkeep and transportation.
The development, described as another demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, was announced in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the initial phase of payments is designed to strengthen the training ecosystem and enable beneficiaries to focus on acquiring practical, in-demand skills.
The statement also revealed that over 600 independent technical and vocational centers have also received payments for the instructional and skills training they provide.
“This first phase of disbursements ensures that the training ecosystem is fully supported.
“The initial tranche marks the beginning of a sustained effort, with more tranches expected, confirming the programme’s long-term financial commitment and sustainability,”the statement read.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, hailed the rapid commencement of payments as a direct execution of President Tinubu’s directive to invest aggressively in Nigerian youth.
“President Tinubu believes that equipping our youth with practical skills is the fastest way to drive job creation, entrepreneurship, and national economic growth. This embodies the Renewed Hope Agenda turning potential into productivity,” he stated.
Since its launch in May, the TVET Initiative has progressed from registration to practical training, with students already engaged in intensive vocational courses. The timely release of funds, the Ministry said, is crucial to maintaining the programme’s momentum.
