The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on August 21, 2026.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service.
He also called on citizens to pray for peace and national unity, stressing that building a peaceful and cohesive Nigeria requires collective responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect, while assuring citizens of the government’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
