Filmmaker Kayode Peters Dies at 49 in Canada

The Nigerian entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of renowned filmmaker and actor Kayode Peters, who passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 49.

In a statement posted on his official Instagram page by his family it was stated that he succumbed to a prolonged illness 

“KP braved, challenged, and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath this morning,” the statement read. “He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed.”

Peters, celebrated for his role as Koko in the hit comedy series Flatmates beyond acting, Peters was a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s contemporary theatre and television scene, contributing to numerous stage plays and sitcoms, including Extended Family and Being Farouk.

He is survived by his wife, Alexander, and their children. 

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
