The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers newly elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) during a ceremony at the Force Headquarters Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on March 9, 2026, by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Isuku Victor.
In his address, the IGP described the decoration ceremony as more than a symbolic adornment, noting that promotion to the rank of DIG recognises decades of dedicated service, professional excellence and leadership capacity.
He charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic direction, strengthen internal discipline, drive reforms and ensure that policing strategies remain responsive to evolving security challenges across the country.
Disu also urged them to leverage their experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration and accountability, while inspiring confidence within the Force and building public trust.
The IGP further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the police institution, as well as the Police Service Commission for ensuring a transparent and professional promotion process.
The officers decorated as DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada.
They now join the IGP and the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, as members of the Force Management Team.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including Rt. Hon. Kabir Alhassan Rurum, Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force; the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Temitope Ilori; former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Jide Adeniji; and Marilyn Ogar, among other guests and retired senior police officers.
