Auwalu Salisu, a kano-based keke rider receives scholarship offer up to PHD level of education up to 250 million and an award as the most ‘outstanding young person of the year 2023’ at the LEADERSHIP MEDIA GROUP , 5th March 2024.
He received the award for his rare act of honesty in retiring N15 million he found in his tricycle to the owners, he first received scholarship offer to Abuja-based Baye university up to PHD level from a fellow Mr Peter Obi , a fellow awardee and the presidential Labour Party (LP).
Mohammed Umar Baco who was celebrated as the ‘ outstanding Governor of the year 2023’ at the LEADERSHIP award offered Auwalu a scholarship award of N250m to appreciate and encourage other young Nigerians to emulate his honesty .
Bago stated that he would name one of the road projects , he was undertaking in Niger state after Auwalu, the Kano based commercial tricycle rider .
The organized of the LEADERSHIP Annual Conference and award stated that
“ in the country honesty hardly make sense to many people nowadays, Auwalu has reinvented hope in tomorrow’s youth by his display of integrity.
Auwalu stated that “ I am humbled and grateful to LEADERSHIP Newspaper for this honor, I’m really excited because I never expected the simple acts of returning money to the owners would earn me this kind of fame and honor.
Though , hunger would not allow some people to return the money ,but you have to control yourself because honesty does pay .
I have received several gifts and awards from people including members of the Kano State House of Assembly and Emir of Kano after I returned the money to the owners, and for me , this LEADERSHIP award is a testament to the fact , that it is good to the honest “.
