The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) said it will ensure youth contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.
The Director General of the scheme, Brig Gen Yushau’a Ahmed stated this at the thanksgiving service to mark NYSC at 50 celebration service.
The Director General was represented by the Director of ICT, Mrs Christy Uba.
He added that the scheme has contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of the country.
” A large number of the youth has participated in the scheme, and they have learnt so many skills and built their capacity during the service year. It has become a leading light to pave the way for the lives of many of the youths “, he said.
The Director General commended the founding father of NYSC for bringing about such a laudable initiative.
” The scheme is still thriving despite various challenges. We appreciate General Gowon for coming up with such an innovative scheme. We are grateful that he is still alive to witness such a major landmark as the 50th anniversary”, he said.
The DG further charged the corp members to be good ambassadors and keep up the good work in transforming the nation.
The chaplain in charge of Sunday services at, the National Christian Centre, Rev Mike Agboh, said there is a need to promote peace and unity among political leaders and followers in the country.
He hinted that all citizens need to come together and share the same love that is replicated during the service year.
“Everyone needs to review their character and promote the right values. The same virtues that the founding fathers of NYSC had in mind when setting up the scheme should be replicated. The citizens and leaders should be ready to serve the country and make meaningful development to the country.”
He noted that the NYSC was meant to foster unity and promote peace and development.
While noting that the program was developed to unite youths from different backgrounds to live together in peace and harmony.
He added that the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) brought Christians together to spread the gospel of Christ in different communities during their service year.
In the same vein, he noted that NYSC has brought about many inter-tribal marriages and enhanced social-cultural development in Nigeria.
“It has brought integration to many communities. We hope that the same love will be shared and the citizens will revive the lost glory of the country”, he said.
