The Edo Police Command is calling on state government officials, community leaders, and organizations to work together with the police to ensure the safe distribution of palliatives. This comes after recent devastating stampedes in various parts of the country, resulting in avoidable deaths and injuries.
According to Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesman, “The advice became necessary to ensure that palliatives were distributed in an organised manner free of chaos.” The Commissioner of Police, Ozigi Umoru, warned that groups and organizers of similar events must involve the police or other security agencies to prevent such tragedies.
The statement reads, “Following recent cases of stampedes leading to avoidable deaths in some parts of the country, the Edo State Police Command has proactively called on government officials, community leaders, religious bodies, and non-governmental organisations to collaborate with the state command for a comprehensive and organised way of going about the distribution of any palliatives.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ozigi Umoru, therefore warns groups and organisers of similar events to ensure they involve the Police or other security agencies to avoid such occurrences in the state.
“The Command remains committed to always ensuring the safety of lives and property.”
