The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion, praising their contributions to national development and economic growth.
He noted that the commitment and resilience of workers remain vital to the country’s progress, urging them to continue to uphold values that promote productivity and unity.
“Workers’ dedication is essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity,” he said, encouraging citizens to remain focused on their responsibilities.
The minister also called on Nigerians to observe the holiday peacefully and in line with the law, stressing the importance of national unity.
“Citizens should use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity and hard work in building the nation,” he added.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic development.
